Nicolas BOISSELIER - Artistic Director
Nicolas Boisselier began to study music at the age of 17. After a formative period at the Conservatoire of Poitiers studying piano and choral direction, he went to Poland to continue his musical education at Warsaw’s Frederic Chopin Academy of Music. During these studies he worked with the leading choral directors in Poland.
In recognition of his progress, Nicolas was awarded a bursary in 2004 by the Poitou Charente region as part of their scheme “Help for young artists”.
Awarded his Diploma in 2008 in the class of Slawek Wroblewski, he drew especial praise from the awarding panel.
Particularly interested in the different styles and cultures of choral singing across Europe, he is passionate about the repertoire of the Romantic period as well as those of the 20th and 21st centuries.
In recent years he has broadened his scope by helping Col Canto work with orchestras, by lending his own dynamic style to the direction of choir and orchestra and in collaborating with other choral groups, national and international. A particularly successful collaboration with the internationally renowned Salisbury Cathedral Choir drew the warmest of praises from their well established Musical Director, David Halls.
His links with Poland were refreshed when he was invited to return to the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music, with Col Canto, to give Master Classes to developing young Polish choral directors and to prepare Col Canto to sing a major work directed by its Polish composer, Milosz Bembinow.
Nicolas’ work with Col Canto is characterised by constant attention to three things: vocal quality, variety in their programmes and sharing musical information with audiences during concerts.
